15 of 17 whole-house filters we track have no certified health claim

Which whole-house water filters are certified to remove PFAS or lead?

Only 2 of the 17 whole-house filters we track have a certified reduction for a health-related contaminant: the SpringWell Lead & Cyst system (lead, PFAS, cysts) and the Aquasana HealthShield (PFAS, VOCs).

We checked certifier listings for 17 whole-house systems on 2026-10-23.

Two have certified health-related reductions. The SpringWell Lead & Cyst Removal System is listed by IAPMO R&T under NSF/ANSI 53 for lead, cysts and PFOA/PFOS. The Aquasana HealthShield is listed by WQA under NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, PFHpA and VOCs.

The other 15 have no certified health-related reduction in the listings we checked. One of them, the 3M Aqua-Pure AP903, is NSF-certified under NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine, taste and odor and particulates only, which are aesthetic claims.

Several uncertified systems still advertise PFAS reduction, for example the SpringWell PFAS system and the iSpring WGB21B-PF, based on brand statements or brand-cited lab tests.

Point-of-use filters (under-sink, RO, pitchers) are far more often certified for lead and PFAS than whole-house systems.
